Man drinking alcohol while driving a car. Danger on the road caused by drunk drivers.

A one-vehicle accident in a Chicago suburb claimed the lives of two men in the early morning of July 19, and alcohol was cited as its cause. The driver of the vehicle, who survived the car accident, is facing multiple charges.

Investigation into the accident is ongoing, but Naperville investigators reported that the crash occurred near the intersection of Eagle Street and Aurora Avenue. According to reports, a 21-year-old Geneva man was driving a sedan westbound on Eagle Street just before 2 a.m. when the vehicle left the road. The car struck several trees before landing in a water-filled quarry.

The driver of the vehicle was able to escape the car and swim to safety. He was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, but his two passengers, both 21-year-old men, were trapped inside. Fire department and police divers later recovered their bodies from the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody and faces six charges, those being four counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol causing death and two counts of reckless homicide.

When someone dies an accident that was no fault of his or her own, the person’s family is likely facing such things as medical bills for any end-of-life treatment in addition to funeral expenses. Many families in such a situation are too affected by the sudden financial burdens that they cannot focus on their own grief, especially if their insurance companies do not provide relief. While no outcome is guaranteed, wrongful death lawsuits might bring financial relief to these families so that they can focus on their own emotional recoveries.
