Illinois Chamber of Commerce Argues for Restricting Workers’ Rights

Crowd of workers attending meeting about workers' rights

By Neal B. Strom of Strom & Associates, Ltd. posted in Workers' Compensation on Friday, November 1, 2013.

A new study released by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, entitled "The Impact of Judicial Activism in Illinois," argues that workers' rights are negatively impacting commerce and business within the state and that the solution is to roll back protections afforded by the Workers' Compensation Act.

The study argues that State Legislature should amend the Workers' Compensation act to strip workers of benefits available when they are injured while traveling and to heighten the standard needed to prove a causal connection between employment and injury.
If enacted, these amendments would severely impact workers' rights in Illinois and further tilt the playing field in the favor of employers. Workers across the state should be aware that the Chamber of Commerce and its affiliates are attempting to once again restrict the rights of employees.
