Each year the group, Families for Better Care, a nursing home oversight organization publishes a Nursing Home Report Card. The grade considers a number of factors, including: Professional Nurse Hours Per Resident Per Day, Certified Nursing Assistant Hours per Resident per Day, Percentage of Facilities with Above Average Professional Nurse Staffing, Percentage of Facilities with Above Average Health Inspections, Percentage of Facilities with Deficiencies.

In 2014, Illinois nursing homes earned an average score of “F” meaning the state ranked 41 or worse based upon these criterion. Illinois ranked number 44 and Indiana ranked number 42. Rhode Island ranked number 1 and Texas ranked number 51. The new grade for 2015 will soon be published. Based upon interim reporting it looks like Illinois will again be ranked 41 or worse.
