OSHA Promotes Workplace Safety to a New Generation of Workers

The U.S. Department of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has awarded health and safety grants to promote workplace safety. Grants will provide education and training on safety standards for young workers.

OSHA Training Grants

The U.S. Department of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has awarded federal health and safety training grants for 2017. Funding of $10.5 million will be issued to 80 nonprofit organizations around the country through the Susan Harwood Grants Program. Funds will provide education and training to young workers to help businesses and employees address workplace safety hazards and workplace injuries that result in costly medical claims often seen by a workers comp lawyer. Safety topics to be addressed include:

• Construction Accidents
• Machinery Hazards
• Excavation Hazards
• Grain Handling Accidents
• Chemical Burns
• Electrocution

OSHA safety and training will focus on workplace safety standards for all types of jobs with focus on high-risk occupations where workers experience a high number of on-the-job injuries and fatalities.

OSHA Alliance Program

OSHA's Alliance Program offers workplace safety information, training and guidance to all types of businesses, professional and trade organizations, community organizations, and educational institutions. The goal of the program is to promote workplace safety and prevent workplace illnesses, injuries and fatalities. Alliance Program participants are not exempt from OSHA safety inspections and enforcement of violations.

In recent months, OSHA has renewed a number of alliances with a variety of organizations to provide safety information and training to young employees in the workplace. OSHA guidance will help young workers to understand the importance of workplace safety and health rights and promote essential responsibilities of workers and employers. The renewed alliances will allow organizations to expand and enhance their current training curriculum and promote health and safety awareness to students and workers in the community.

Through the Alliance Program, OSHA raises awareness of workplace safety by training workers on new and revised safety standards and rules and regulations. The program addresses workers' concerns on industry hazards and promotes open discussions on workplace safety and violations. Workers are encouraged to participate in discussions on workplace accidents and injuries, as well as healthcare rights and responsibilities under the Occupational Safety and Health Act. The Alliance Program also helps employees and employers to understand basic procedures for filing workers' compensation claims when on-the-job injuries or fatalities occur. OSHA offers workplace safety guidance through its Alliance Program in all areas of the country.
