Witnesses explain that the SUV was driving southbound on South Western Neighborhood when the vehicle began to swerve over the centerline. The bus driver sounded the vehicle's horn, but the SUV continued into the bus' path, eventually striking the bus and causing the public transit accident. It is not clear why the driver of the SUV drifted across the centerline in the first place, though it is possible that the motorist was distracted or impaired.

Public transit accidents can be caused by negligent drivers of personal vehicles. However, the bus driver needs to be astute enough to avoid crashing into another car, no matter the situation. Victims of this and other similar mass transit accidents may be entitled to financial compensation to pay for their medical costs and other civil claims.
