Car accident on busy intersection

On behalf of Strom & Associates, Ltd. posted in Car Accidents on Wednesday, October 1, 2014.

On Sept. 26, a woman was seriously injured in a three-car accident that took place near Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Although the woman's visible injuries appeared minor, according to police, the impact of the collision may have resulted in serious internal injuries. Following the accident, the woman was airlifted to Saint Louis University Hospital.

According to officials from the Edwardsville Fire Department, the motor vehicle accident happened at an intersection around 9:40 a.m. The victim was reportedly attempting to turn east when her vehicle was T-boned by another vehicle that had allegedly failed to stop at a red light.

As a result of the initial collision, the victim's car spun out of control and collided with a third vehicle. Neither of the other two drivers involved reported suffering from any injuries, and they refused treatment from emergency medical personnel. Witnesses say the driver of the vehicle that allegedly ran the red light received a traffic citation. Police also commented that this driver did not show any signs of impairment.

Regardless of whether or not a driver is found to be criminally negligent, injured parties may still file a civil lawsuit against the driver if his or her actions caused an accident to occur. If police and eyewitness testimony can establish that a driver failed to stop at a red light, this evidence may help strengthen a plaintiff's personal injury lawsuit. An attorney may be able to help an injured plaintiff present all relevant evidence that is needed to seek the maximum amount of damages.
