An accident involving a car and a minivan on Illinois 48 at about 2 p.m. on Nov. 5 claimed the lives of two individuals and left a third one seriously injured. A fourth individual in the fatal motor vehicle accident was hospitalized for minor injuries, as reported.

Police said that the crash transpired just outside of Raymond when a northbound Pontiac Grand Prix carrying three occupants on 48 veered off the right side of the highway. After supposedly over-compensating, the Pontiac then crossed the lines and collided with an approaching minivan. Two of the Pontiac’s passengers were fatally injured when the minivan smashed into the left side of the Pontiac. One of the passengers, who was traveling in the front seat, was declared dead by first responders. The other passenger, who was riding in the back seat, was declared dead at a local hospital. A medical helicopter transported the Pontiac driver to a nearby hospital for treatment of severe injuries, and an ambulance took the minivan driver to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries, according to the report.

Whenever a motorist causes an accident because he or she was speeding, driving under the influence or driving in a careless fashion, those involved could suffer catastrophic injuries such as a spinal cord injury, a brain injury or a neck injury. Under these circumstances, the injured party might consider holding that driver accountable for damages. By filing a claim for compensation, the injured party must provide evidence showing that the driver caused the crash because of negligent activity.

A local attorney representing an injured plaintiff in the suit can look for such evidence in the accident report, any witness statements and possible surveillance camera footage. Additionally, the attorney might use charges filed against the accused driver. If the case proves successful, whether in a court of law or through a pretrial settlement, the injured party may be compensated for their accident-related losses, possibly including pain and suffering.
