How Safe are Chicago Nursing Homes?
Illinois nursing home facilities are regularly monitored by state inspectors who look for problems with patient care, safety violations, and facility management. To address problems, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), developed the “Special Focus Facility Program” (SFF) to identify those Illinois nursing homes failing to meet health and safety standards.
Each quarter, nursing homes are inspected and evaluated for health and safety violations that pose injury risks to patients. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) publishes quarterly lists of facilities that are cited for neglect, abuse, and safety violations of the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act. In some cases, nursing home abuse lawyers see facilities that remain on violation lists for multiple quarters.
