Police and emergency personnel from Peru responded to La Salle County’s 17th fatal accident this year at 7 a.m. on Sep. 8. Three vehicles were involved, and a 57-year-old woman died at the scene. A 60-year-old woman, the driver of the car believed to have caused the accident, was reportedly in critical condition at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. A third driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into this accident, and police continue to seek witnesses in this case. Depending on the outcome of the preliminary investigation, accident reconstruction and laboratory blood tests may be forthcoming. The investigation could take some time to complete and criminal charges may be pending.
This car accident occurred on Route 251 just south of Ben Samak Road, and it appears that the woman driving one vehicle crossed over into oncoming traffic and struck both of the other vehicles involved. In 2008, another fatal accident occurred in the same vicinity, and it took authorities two years to complete their investigation.
When a fatal motor vehicle accident such as this occurs, the family of the deceased might decide to seek the assistance of a personal injury attorney familiar with the laws. There may be enough reason for a family to file a wrongful death civil suit and pursue compensation for situations like the loss of financial support and companionship. Regardless of the outcome of an investigation, an attorney might be able to obtain police reports and advise family members on a course of action. He or she might also represent families in civil court proceedings or insurance negotiations.
