Woman Pulling Over for a Cop

Chicago area media outlets have reported that an Illinois State Trooper was left in critical condition after being struck by an allegedly drunk driver on Sept. 6. A 59-year-old Mount Prospect woman is facing several charges, including DUI, in connection with the incident. The motor vehicle accident took place on Interstate 294, which makes up part of the Tri-State Tollway, near Berkeley around 2:46 p.m.

According to an Illinois State Police report, the trooper had exited his cruiser after pulling a vehicle over in the vicinity of Charles Road when he was struck by the woman’s car. The woman is then said to have attempted to flee the scene. However, in her bid to get away, the woman struck a minivan containing seven individuals. Police say that the force of the impact caused the minivan to overturn. The woman was pulled over and taken into custody a short time later.

Responding emergency services personnel soon arrived on the scene, and they transported the injured trooper and the seven occupants of the minivan to area hospitals for treatment. The woman appeared in bond court on Sept. 7, and her bail was set at $450,000. In addition to aggravated driving under the influence, the woman is facing charges that include leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.

Intoxicated motorists injure or kill hundreds of people on the roads of Illinois each year. Those who suffer injuries in drunk driving accidents often face severe financial hardship as medical bills pile up while they are unable to go to work and earn a living. A personal injury attorney may be able to assist those in such a situation by bringing a lawsuit against the intoxicated driver responsible or their insurance company.
